Over-ride Switches on the Air Switch

On the internal board of the Air Switch, there are two connections that will allow for 2 different Over-ride switches to be installed.

These are dry-voltage connections, meaning that they do not need to be powered or have power supplied. The Air Switch only looks to see if the circuit is closed or not. In terms of installation, this means that any switch or button will work. We recommend using a button that resets to 'open' after pressing. This way, there won't be any confusing signals or accidental over-rides if a switch is left on or off.


When either of the over-rides are activated, the Switch will power the connected equipment On or Off, regardless of current Function commands or scheduling. These will also work even if there is no programming setup for the Air Switch. Useful if you would like to test your wiring to ensure that all connections work.


When used in regards to setup & published Functions: The Over-ride switches will completely override any running functions and will stay in that state until some other Function changes the state of the Switch. 


For example: Lets say we have a Switch connected to a simple fan to turn on when the temperature of a room exceeds 24 degrees, and turns off when it falls under 20 degrees. If, when the area is under 20 degrees, someone presses the Override switch for 'On', the Switch & Fan will turn on even though the current Function dictates it should be off. 


Now, the Switch will keep the fan on until something changes it's state. Since the original function said that the Switch should be off, even though the Override switch has turned it on, the Switch's state is still "Off". This can cause issues if scheduling or External Inputs need to continue to be followed.


Here are a few options: 

  • Leave the Switch alone, as when the temperature rises to 24 degrees, the Switch's state will change to "On", thus changing the status and bringing the Switch back under control of the programmed Functions
  • Press the Override button to have the Switch once more match its internal state
  • Re-publish the Functions from Admin


The Override switches also will do the same if Timers are used as well. If an Override is pressed to turn the Switch "On" while the Timer has the Switch's internal state as "Off", the Switch will stay on unless one of the above options is used.
